Health experts say smoking weakens the function of the lungs and could leave people more susceptible to a serious case of coronavirus (COVID-19).
COVID-19, a respiratory illness, is now a pandemic. It continues to make people sick.
“For most respiratory infections, you worry about people who smoke a bit more,” said one university professor. “[Smokers are] more likely to get [coronavirus] and their immune system is less good.”
Fortunately, within 72 hours of quitting smoking, healthy cells begin to replace damaged ones in the lungs, and the lungs regain full capacity. Basically, this means now is a good time to quit smoking!
